Hello, this is my first time on this site. I drive a 2003 F350 super duty, everything is stock, no lift kit or anything.sp here goes, I am having a problem with my steering. I'll start with some history. The steering wheel on the truck has been kind of broken for about a year, meaning it has alot play in it moving in every direction like it's partially broken inside, no play when turning it, but it wiggles side to side and up and down quite a bit. but it always steered fine. A few months ago it would start to pull a little bit almost as if I was getting stuck in a rut on the road that kind of pulled me to one side. Then it got really bad. The only way to describe the feeling is as if one of the front wheels were moving in a different direction independently from the other wheel. When I was steering it would take a little more of a turn on the steering wheel to go in the direction I was trying to turn (I'm talking about subtle turns taking slight corners on the road, not turning onto a new street) and then the truck would eventually lunge to the side where I was turning like the wandering wheel would catch up and send me nearly off of the road. It would do this turning either way left or right, like I said, it seemed like one of the wheels was not turning with the other one. I jacked it up and checked the tierods and ball joints and the usual front end issues and they are all fine. Could this be something in my steeringbox? I know I have a problem with the steering wheel that needs to be fixed but it had driven fine like this for over a year. Any insight would be greatly appreciated.
Hi.
2011 when i bought my truck, 2000 f250, it have sloppy steering, it did`t go side to side(it did but slowly almost hard to notice) more like loose steering and lazy turning. It was hard to keep truck steering wheel at center/straight. Replace steering box, sway bar + end link bushings. That solved steering problem back then.
I did have almost same problem again back in summer(2017). It ended to be bad axle lock hub. They were original ones, with auto or manual function. Passenger side lock went on and off while driving and steering was wandering side to side. Sometimes very aggressive, like "death wobble". Only way to make it turn and go straight was pull over and drive reverse. If it wont help, then you need turn wheels side to side while reversing. Then i bought Warn premium manual lock hubs and problem was solved+(u joints and drive shaft stub).
UNTIL now. Since last week truck has done same thing. It cant be locking hubs this time, because there is only manual lock or no lock.. Some times wandering have stopped while driving. Some time it start wandering after brake and turn.
Peteg12583: so it might be back locking hubs. also Steering Stabilizer worn out?
