My shop recently got a new scanner and today I was playing around with it on my 1994 f150 5.0. Our old scanner could never communicate with the damned thing so it was interesting to see some actual codes and data. Anyways one of the data pids was VREF. Sitting at what I believe to be an unhealthy 6.68v. Usually I see other cars at 5v flat. What would cause this? Ecu issue is my first guess but I’m not coming up with much for info. Any thoughts?
How the hell can you get PID data on an OBD1 truck? If you have some magic scan tool tell me where I can buy one please!
If you have wires going to pins #1 & #3 of the self-test EEC data connector you should be able to read data with the right OBD1 scanner (not a code reader).
This is the same connector you read the codes with a code reader.
We just bought the new Zeus scanner from snap on we had an old modi’s but that thing wouldn’t even communicate with some obd1 vehicles. I see both your trucks that you showed scan data on have perfect 5 volt reference! I’m jealous. I’m going to do some more diggin on it tonight. Maybe I’ll rip the pcm out and see how it’s looking inside.
