Could my ignition module be bad? I have no power at my + side of the coil which I assumed should always be there when the key is on. What I found out is if I unplug either plug on the ignition module I have power to the coil, maybe I am missing something but I thought the power goes right to the coil from the ignition (red/green wire).
You are correct, the power goes directly to the coil + from the keyswitch through a resistor wire. You are all around the problem, keeping messing with it. Make sure you always have this wire plugged into the coil when using a meter to check it, or use a testlight. You always need a load on the wire when you are testing it, if not it can give you false readings.
You didn't say what year and what engine, but most of the durasparks are wired the same. Here's a diagram.
Figured it out thanks. Truck is a 86 4.9 I swapped it to duraspark. Found 2 problems, coil problem was sticky ignition, no spark problem is frozen oil pump and distributor not turning. Hopefully I will remedy both problems tonight.
Yeah cracked head, replaced head and put it all back together truck only has 65,000 miles was very worried about the bottom end. Little water in the bottom end and it was about 10 degrees out when I was trying to get her running, it was almost 50 yesterday I primed the oil pump and she fired right up oil pressure is excellent and no noises so hopefully good to go.
