So my high idle finally kicked in!! Started my truck 2 days ago to let it warm up before heading off to work. It was 6 degrees out and 1 second after it started high idle kicked in. I was used to my old truck (2005) it would high idle at 25 degrees out. I guess the 2017's are a little different? Anyways I was pretty happy it kicked in.
40 or lower for me. If I remote start it in the morning I hear the idle settle after about 5 minutes. Unlike the diesel, the 6.2 will go into gear while in high idle. The other night I got toned out for a structure fire and the truck went into gear and drove as soon as I started it (mid 20's or so). My last truck, a 6.7, I had to wait until the computer let me put it in gear when it was cold.

Im on the job also. What is this I hear about a high Idle on upfitter Aux #4 if installed from Ford? Im a bit warmer here but like the high idle. Is there a way to put on manual?

HEY! There's a difference between what the PCM does when it's cold out, and the high idle mod that lets the user put the engine in high idle mode (diesels only) for PTO use or long idle times. I know in the 11-16's it was just a matter of adding a resistor to certain PTO and upfitter wires and tying it all in to the upfitter switch of your choice. Not sure if this is how the 17's work as I went back to the gas motor. The cold weather high idle controlled by the PCM is a starting strategy that runs the idle higher than normal to get oil to the top of the motor and warm the engine up in general when the temps drop.
there seems to be no rhyme or reasoning to when mine kicks on. it seems like it is random. can't pin point at what temp it comes on. and it only idles at 1000-1100 rpm. definitely not like the high idle on my old Rams or GMC

thankyou. I read in manual that there maybe an idle control and it would be programmed through upfitter pg 180?
