Discount when ordering a new superduty?

I have never custom ordered a truck before, always just purchased off the lot. Next time I will order exactly what I want, I'm assuming that when ordering they pretty much make you pay sticker without a discount? Any general experiences would be helpful to me. Thank you! Will be a loaded out 250 Platinum or Lariat, sticker mid 70's.

You should be able to buy for LESS than invoice. Mines was $800 under invoice. Some people do even better. X-plan is no bargain, it's about the same as invoice pricing.

Then, after your less than invoice price, subtract any incentives. Be sure to look for any available. Financing, Customer cash, AQHA, Sam's Club, veteran/First Responder, etc. Not all are combinable/stackable/

Speck out the truck, with the option codes so you know what you want. Then, send the order to several dealers. They should be able to bid on it. No different than any other business bidding on a job.

Most cars dealers sell are less than $30K. It takes the same work to sell a $75K truck as a $20K car. They make next to nothing (~$1,000?) on a $20K car. There is no reason they need to make more on you when you buy your new truck.

Get a F350, not an F250. Same price.

Every F350 I have specced out cost $1000 more than the same F250.

I always order what I want. Might as well get exactly what you want the first time around. Invoice is there I start negotiations. After we come to a mutual agreement -- then take all the rebates etc.

2018 Special order pricing

I have been shopping a special order 2018 F-250 Lariat, PSD,SC,SB,4X4 (Option codes - 471, eighteen D, 66S, 85S, 85D, 61N, ) Invoice including freight = 57,515.00..... and.......the best price I was quoted was from Holiday Ford, Whitesboro TX - 56,000.00 (1,500 under invoice)
The worst experience was with Kerry Ford, Cincinnatti OH. They would not even discuss pricing unless I was physically in their showroom.
All other quotes (4) ranged from Invoice to 600.00 under invoice. ( All quotes included freight and were before TT&L and any applicable incentives at time of delivery) Also, there is NO trade involved. For me, travel costs to and from TX would be about 500.00. So my decision is; is it worth 400.00 bucks to me for the convienience of a relatively local delivery? Probably. I intend to order this truck about Jan.15th for a March or so delivery.

I have special ordered my last 4 vehicles. 3 for me and 1 for my wife. My current Super Duty is on order and scheduled to arrive mid February. There is no reason to pay anything over invoice PRIOR to Ford rebates. As stated earlier, many times you can negotiate below invoice. Most dealers should be able to show you an invoice and their pricing. Remember they get over $2,000 in holdback money from Ford whenever they sell a unit. That is why some dealers are able and willing to sell below invoice. Larger volume dealers also have other savings from Ford that allow them to get extra monies through the year. Negotiate your price to invoice or below and then remember you get whatever rebates FORD is offering at the time you take possession of your vehicle on top of your negotiated price. My Super Duty invoiced at $73,505 and my negotiated price was $68,595. I am assuming I will get an additional $1,000 from Ford through the rebates because they are already offering $1,000 rebate on 2018. Remember the dealership is paying very little to no interest on this truck because it sits at their dealership for 24 to 72 hours and then you pick it up. Larger volume dealers are used to this mind set and should be willing to start at invoice.

I walked into my local small town dealer, showed them my build and offered them $1000 under invoice. The guy looked at it and said, “OK”. Made me feel like I should have come in lower, but the whole deal took about two minutes so I can’t complain! Anyway, the truck is on the way and we’ll see what, if any, rebates are in effect at delivery time.

X-plan is a good plan. I don't know why you are saying it is no bargain. Xplan with a vehicle over $60k is under invoice. It also minimizes the fees involved where dealers can charge anything they want (I've seen $300 - $500 for fees).

For those who don't like the back and forth and/or hate negotiating, it is a good deal to walk in and get under invoice. I won't discuss holdback because I feel a dealer has every right to make $2k on a $70,000 vehicle. But that's just me.

What?? They are not the same price. That's like saying get a Crew Cab because they are the same price as the Extended Cab.

What is the MSRP of this truck?
I got a quote from them on a similar truck to this. They quoted me 2K higher than the same MSRP 2018 truck on their lot. Of course theirs is a crew cab and I want a supercab. Still shouldn't be that much difference.

Thank you all for this information, extremely helpful. Walking in to the dealer uninformed is giving them permission to put a gun to your head. And Texas has concealed carry.

I used to like x-plan. I used it buy my 04 and it was a substantial discount. But it’s not that way anymore. A platinum F250 base model has an MSRP of $62660. Invoice on the same truck is $59214. X-plan on that truck is $59368, slightly higher than invoice. Plenty of dealers are willing to sell well below invoice so what’s the incentive to use x-plan anymore? Yes, the fees are capped but my state caps them anyway. Even if they’re not, they’re negotiable. And yes, it’s no-hassle pricing and there’s no back and forth but is that worth the $1000 or $1500 you can get below invoice/x-plan? Don’t get me wrong, I think the dealer has the right to make some money too but I also have the right to seek out the best deal I can get!

Eh, we're talking $70-80k trucks here...they're basically the same price. Especially when the additional payload is factored in.

I think x plan is 0.4% under invoice?

Did you try Fairfield Ford? I've bought my last 2 trucks there. No hassle.

On rebates/offers, you get the best deal between time ordered until delivery. If the rebate was $750 at the time of order and at delivery it is $1000, you get the $1000. If $1000 at time of order and $500 at delivery, you get the $1000. At least that is what Fairfield Ford does.

On X-plan, think I have bought 6 Ford vehicles, and 5 of them I have been able to negotiate a better deal than X-plan. X-plan is nice to fall back on, but my experience is you can generally do better.

Right, but then they tack on the x-plan admin fee and you’re back above invoice.
