Just so you know, that 30 hrs is an approximation over a period of about six months. It wasn't all that intense.
I'll speculate that Ford did not build the instrument clusters themselves. Rather it was Stewart-Warner, King-Seeley, or some other.
I'm sure Ford didn't build them. They probably got them shipped in by the truckload. I'm sure the crosshatching cost a bit more than Henry wanted to pay.
I read once that you could approximate the cross hatching by spray painting the cluster faceplate through a piece of screening material. Never done it but I have 2 or 3 clusters I may play with to see.

Thank you. I like your idea with the screen, but wouldn't that make the pattern square? I was thinking along the line of a roller like a lathe knurling tool.

I started a thread a few years ago regarding this exact subject. I ended up using a screen sitting diagonally. Worked pretty good. You might want to check out this thread.
