$550. is way out of line to replace the gasket under the spin on oil filter.
Now the 'Something like that' is another matter.
So if you could tell us what that is, we could give an opinion.
Thanks for the reply Richard sorry I wasn't specific . They are replacing the Oil Filter adapter gasket , It's leaking oil and coolant from the gasket . They also said that will include coolant and oil change . Hope that helps . They quoted $ 550.00 do do the work , also commented that most of this is labor .
I have a 2007 5.4 engine and have done some work on that adapter. I think I am familiar enough to understand what repairs you are having done.
Yeah, that seems high (ouch). Is that price quote from a dealer? Dealers have a high overhead thus higher prices than an independent garage. Usually their work is top notch though.
This is not a high tech job for a mechanic so an independent garage may give you a lower price. I don't know how much lower though.
I would use the yellow long lasting Ford coolant if you are going to replace all of the coolant. (Don't mix coolant types)
Richard
It at the Ford dealers quote , their comment is biggest part is labor No charge for the oil change as they just did one a month ago , but the coolant is pricy they say ?
If I remember right the gold Ford coolant was about $15.00 per gallon. If I remember right my system took about 3 gallons.
They may not need to drain your oil to remove & replace the oil filter adapter to put a new gasket in.
