I'll leave it up to someone who knows better to give you more hard info, but I do know for a fact that the Stepside tailgate is different than the Styleside one. The stepside should be the same dimentions and/or style as the 2nd gen truck's tailgates (narrower than the 3rd gen Styleside tailgates I think), and the Styleside for our trucks is longer with the unique Ford lettering.
My "Styleside" '58 F-100 has a tailgate which measures 52 1/2" from side to side. It has the large FORD letters typical of these tailgates. The "Flareside" trucks have a tailgate which has the small FORD letters. Not sure of the measurements.
Yeah, as far as I know, that's a Styleside only tailgate like the one I have. Based on the info from more experienced people like Teddy and Numberdummy in this thread, it looks like you need a different tailgate if you have a stepside. Hopefully one of them will see this, as they could probably be of more assistance haha.

Yes, that's what I thought. My Styleside tailgate like both pictures above, is also 52 1/2 Inches. Based on what I know, the stepside tailgate is less wide/long (whichever way you want to call it) But I'm still confused about the dimentions on the stepside tailgate, going by the thread I shared. We need Numberdummy!
Grabbed my buddy and took a drive to Willits CA and bought the tailgate. Can use a little TLC but overall its in great shape. Gotta a screaming deal also.
So on the way there, my buddy asks, "How does a thermos know if its supposed to keep something cold or keep it hot?"
