My 47 half ton does not have any exterior door handles on it, I removed them 4 years ago when I got the truck and I did not do my due diligence and pay attention to the process when I removed them. I have purchased new handles form MACs but I can't figure out how to install them.
I also have new interior handles and can't figure out how to remove the old ones to put the new ones on.
Lastly, I have a new lock cylinder for the passenger door. How does that work? It seems like I may be missing a piece or something. There is just the hole for the cylinder, it doesn't appear as if there is anything for the shaft to grab. Is there a piece that goes through the hole on the side of the door that is supposed to catch the shaft of the cylinder?
Any insight or advice is greatly appreciated. It looks as if the shafts on the new handles may need to be cut, as they are really long. Is that common?
Thanks. I got the link to work on my phone but still won't work on the computer.
Through that link I think I figured out the lock cylinder. One of those threads says that the set screw is a 6-32, which I thought was odd. Sure enough, that's not the case with mine. I am not sure what size it is, but its much larger than 6-32.
Is it normal to have to trim the shaft on a new replacement door handle/lock cylinder?
I cannot seem to find anything on the exterior or interior door handle install. I used the search function to no avail.
I figured out the exterior handle, but am still having trouble getting the interior handles off to replace them.
Also, I ran into an issue. The passenger side door handle will turn but does not engage the door hardware inside the panel. It looks like the square hole that the handle fits into has rounded itself off and the handle is turning freely.
I pulled the latch assembly and cleaned it up really good. While it was out, the handle mechanism was working just fine. I trimmed the corners of the handle about an inch up from the end and now it works well when on the door.
My next issue: i‘m missing three of the screws that hold the latch assembly in place on the doors. I took one to the hardware store but couldn’t match the size. Does anyone know what size screws those are?
