I purchased a radiator at the parts house for my truck. It has a transmission cooler built in the radiator. The original radiator does not, it has a separate transmission cooler. They told me to just plug the connections and install it. Seems to me that the amount of cooling removed for the trans cooler would be beneficial to the cooling of the motor. The actual radiator would be less capacity, therefore not up to par with what was made for this engine. Am I wrong not to install this, does someone make a radiator with out the trans cooler for this truck? Thanks a lot.
Your cooling capacity, that is the capacity to remove heat is the job of the core. The tanks on each end of the core serve only as manifolds for the core. Having a non-functioning, or functioning for that matter, cooler has no impact on the radiator's efficiency.
If it were my truck, I would not only install it but I would also connect the cooler in line with your existing cooler making it more like the later trucks.

You'll be fine. I installed a radiator from NAPA a couple years ago that had the transmission cooler built in. My '99 didn't have a cooler in the radiator but I've been running a 6.0 trans cooler. But I purposely bought the one with the trans cooler so in the future if I decided to connect it and use it I'll have it. The only benefit of the built in trans cooler is when in stopped traffic for a period of time. I can't' see any better cooling than the 6.0 cooler while in motion. I just left the orange plugs that come with it in, but I took them out and added some silicone to help seal and hold them in.

I installed the newer style radiator in my 99 V10, really makes a difference idling to bring the temperature's down.
Thanks to all. FYI, Hussler, the last post in the thread you sent me to has a number listed for the radiator. That is Ford's number for the radiator without a trans cooler. But all the info was helpful, thanks again.
