Trailer Inspection

Have any of you kept up with annual DMV trailer inspections? I have never had mine inspected and they don't seem to worried about enforcing it.

I have yet to get plates for my car trailer, needed the title and could not put my hands on it from the move. I have since found it but not needed the trailer.
So they inspect them yearly or what?

Technically but NC law you're supposed too... however I've never done it. Also they don't block trailer tags like they do vehicles for not getting a inspection.

I think that's only for commercial trailers, or above a certain weight or something. My trailer registration renewals state "no inspection required."

There are no trailer inspections in N.C. for trailers under 4000gvwr. Keep in mind though that if your trailer is over 9999gvwr you may have to get a Federal DOT inspection. You can do the Federal inspection yourself provided that you do all of the maintenance and repairs on the unit yourself. Inspection kits are available at truck stops.
