Fuel Filter Tool

1990 F-250HD 4x 460 auto

Sorry guys, kind of a stupid question...
I need to change the fuel filter and I know it takes a special tool to get it out. Does this "special tool" have a "special name"? I'm hoping to go to Pep Boys to get a filter and a "special tool", and I'd like to be able to ask for it by name, so I don't look so stupid in person..lol..
Thanks

I think it's called a "Spring-Lock" fitting tool..... you should find it at Pep Boys. I bought one at the local parts store, which has much less of selection. The Lisle tool company makes a version.....

Thanks for the info...
I went out and bought the tool at Pep Boys for about $7.00...
got home and got started... and found out that I didn't need the tool after all! The clips that hold the fittings together come apart with your fingers and a little help from a screwdriver!

Another example of not looking before leaping

Thanks anyways!

ps... After reading my own reply, I thought that my post sounded like I was blaming you for bunk information. That's certainly not the case... My own fault here!!

Not taken that way at all..... If it makes you feel any better, mine has been lying in the top of my toolbox, still in the plastic wrap, for three years. I did the same thing (bought it and then realized I had the duckbill/hairpin-type connectors)! Rather than return it, as I should have, I kept it. Call it dedication to Fords..... I'll know I'll be needing it on another one someday!
