Hello all, I recently picked up a 2003 Excursion Limited 6.0 2WD with 127K, in what I feel was in really good condition. It belonged to a transportation company that would be hired to drive doctors around, so fleet maintained, and detailed regularly. Anyhow I have been poking around the forum and reading up on this massive ride and tips from the other members. I look forward to learning more about this interesting ride. I sold my trusty 2004 F150 FX4 crew cab that I had since 2006 and moved over to the Excursion. I've not done much yet in the two weeks that I've owned it. I put my old double din Pioneer app radio in it (Read up on trimming and the mount on here), installed a back up camera (One I read about in the forum), and read about wheel options. I don't like to go after market on wheels, I like to stick with Ford factory wheels. I wanted 20 inch Ford wheels, but did not want to buy the pricey spacers (Which I read about on here, lol), so I am assuming I got lucky as I found a set of 2004 F250 King Ranch 18 in factory wheels on craigslist and scooped those up for $450. They weren't in as good as condition as I was lead to be but they looked good enough. I opted to go with some black center caps to give them a different look and I am happy with them. I did want to powder coat them black at first, but I ran out of budget with other things I am planning such as new shocks, sway bars, bulletproofing etc. The windows are tinted way dark, so at night it's like driving in a cave lol, not sure if I want to keep it that dark or change the tint later on to something a little lighter. Also these things need a little ambient lighting, going to read up on maybe doing something with that. Still learning about Diesel as I have never had one before. I need to read up on proper start up in the mornings when it is cold. Anyhow, figured I would post about my new to me ride and join in the discussions.
The day we brought it home.
Interior and head unit originally installed, which I swapped with my Pioneer App radio. The plus was the previous owner had installed the module to allow use of the steering wheel controls which I moved over to the new radio.

Besides being a 2wd and a 6.0, I love the truck. I kid, I kid.... Nice looking truck.
Lol, I actually wanted a 4wd, and thought it was 4wd when I went to see it as that is how it was advertised. However it turned out the owner was mistaken. I was able to get them to drop $1900 off the price, but since it was SOOO Clean and looked soo good inside I said what the heck, plus we had driven 3 hours to see it. Most of the ones I had seen in my price range had over 230K miles and were pretty rough on the inside at least the drivers seat. So I settled on the 2wd, I hardly used the 4wd on my old F150 FX4. I still have a little regret but can't do anything about it now, lol.

I see an opportunity for a conversion here...near central Texas?

I probably don't need 4x4 on my Excursion, but I do use it on my Dodge 2500. I mainly roll 4x4, so I can retain my Texas man card. They are a ruff crowd around these parts and I succumb to peer pressure Its a gem of a truck though. Black is my favorite color for the Excursion.

Lol, if that's the case, I guess I lost my 4X4 Texas man card when I sold my FX4, but this diesel makes enough noise that I would hope I could get my man card back lol. What part of Texas, I am in Austin.
You should be able to see I'm in Bastrop, but I work in Austin.
I have the hookup for 4x4 super duty conversion parts in this area. You can go with a Dana 60 leaf sprung front axle, manual shift transfer case and 5R110 with 4x4 tail shaft, or you could do like I am and convert the whole thing to the 05+ axles and coil springs.
