Fuel Level Sensor
Hi,
Some time back I had problems with my fuel tank sensor (two years or so). I replaced the Smiths Regulator with an electronic rectifier (7805 I think) and it worked to a point. There was still an issue with it as regards to its range, as it showed to be 1/4 full when the tank was empty.
I have recently swapped over to electric fans (six months approx.). When the electric fans turn on the fuel gauge drops. Do you think this is because the 12 Volt rectifier bridge for the alternator is not stabilizing correctly?
I was thinking as a test, to disconnect the 12 Volt (Truck Battery, hence no 12 Volts) across the 7805 and temporarily place a 9 volt (Duracell PP3-size 9-volt alkaline battery) battery across the 7805.
Which will still provide the 5 Volt to the fuel tank sensor (which is a variable resistor).
This would mean +9 Volts of the battery to the 7805 and 0 Volt of battery to ground (ground is ground after all, O Volts). Also I have a small 0 to 1 Amp three digit resolution (mA's) digital display that I can use instead of original gauge, if it comes to that.
Thougts?
Thanks,
