So, as part of my dash illumination project, the only thing left to work out is the illumination for the heater controls.
I've got a new bulb in the socket, I've undone the bolts for the heater control and pulled it out a couple inches.
When I put the bulb into the hold in the back of the heater controls, I can see light from underneath, but it isn't shining through the control front panel. I'm assuming that the words should light up, correct?
So, should I be able to read the following in the dark?
Cool ---> Temperature ---> Warm
Off ---> Heat ---> Defrost
Fan ---> High ---> .(dot) ---> . (dot) ---> Off
Anyone got a picture of a working, lit, heater control panel?
If they should be lit up, what am I missing that would stop this happening if the bulb is working fine and is in place behind the panel?
While you're at it, see about using air to blown out any accumulated dust and debris which should help clean it and make it easier to read .
I don't remember W/certainty since I had radio dash area apart, but if you can use some Q-Tip type swabs to clean inside the plastic, if you can it should help as well.
the bulb-socket opening in the control head is in a tricky place between the two control cables and sometimes the socket doesn't want to stay put (comes loose from the head)...
I can see light from the bulb as I'm putting it into the back of the control panel, but then nothing from the front once the socket is locked in place. All I can think to try is try and get the hose for a compressed air can (like for computer keyboards) in there and try to blow it out, but I doubt that'll be enough as I can't see any illumination from the front at all.
It's almost like pushing the bulb socket into place in the back of the control panel causes the bulb to go out - is that possible? As soon as I start pulling it back out I can see light...
