I have a F250 4X4 with the 6.7. The oil filter hangs down almost an inch below the oil pan. The last time I knocked it off was driving through a frozen puddle the ice broke and a chunk knocked off the oil filter and in 10 feet I had no oil pressure. I was 25 miles from telephone service.

I understand there is an aftermarket oil filter adapter that replaces the factory one and points the oil filter 90 degrees to the rear, getting the oil filter away from where it can be knocked off.

Does anyone know who the manufacturer is and where I can find it.

I am tired of getting stranded because Ford only engineers their trucks for on road driving.

 

You've done this more than once? I've never heard of anyone doing this.

 

I have dragged mine a bit with no ill effects.

 

knock on wood I haven yet nor do I hope to ever test its ground clearance. It would be nice if it was tucked up more than hangin down below the pan

 

I would be more worried about the fuel filter under the driver. A loose ski that came off the rack of the car in front of me took out mine before I even made the first payment. I've been carrying a spare ever since.

 

I knew at some point there would be a post on this. I noticed the location of the Oil Filter the day mine arrived at the dealer. Have always been afraid I would knock if off but 210,000 miles later it has never been an issue.

Now that is a lot of paint missing and deep scratches. Would like to hear how that was done.....doesn't ford have skid plates that can be added?

 

They told me it was a 4x4. Just deep mud is all it was. I was pushing it.

Here is Maryland the fields can get pretty soft and you sink.

So to the point of this thread, You really have to be pretty deep in it to even come close to knocking off a filter. As you can see, the axles protect the filter pretty good.

 

Might find a relocate kit from Summit racing, but if you're driving places that endangers the oil filter, might want to buy/make a skid plate that also protects the oil pan.


FWIW, sounds like you're doing things that tractors or ATV's are made to do.

 

Yes, how dare you take your $60k truck off of paved roads. 4x4 was made for wet parking lots.

I'm all for having a good time spinning in the mud so I ain't trying to needle the OP. I think many of us have done things to our trucks where afterwards we should have gotten out and apologized to our truck for breaking it the way we did.

Anyway, like I was saying...since it sounds like this truck will be out there again might be a good idea to protect the oil pan as well.
