Transporting a truck

I’m in Raleigh and looking to buy a ‘66 F350 dually flatbed in Newport News,VA. It’s not roadworthy and so need to tow it. Any idea how to get the truck from there to here without completely blowing my budget?

Have you got something to pull a trailer? You can rent one.

You might be able to bribe or pay one of the guys in here to go get it.

I don't have a trailer big enough to haul a full size truck.

Buy a used trailer, use it, sell it.

Good luck.

Short of buying a trailer to haul it assuming you've got a truck big enough to haul it, you'll habe to pay someone to ship it.

I think I'm about the only one in the NC chapter with a trailer that would be big enough to haul a truck of that size. Unfortunately I'm severly lacking on spare time.

Think if we took the duals off the back it would fit comfortable on a 16 x 7 traiiler? I'm thinking it being a 66 it's a regular cab, so I'm not too worried about the length so much as the width.

I can't remember exactly but I believe the seller told me the outside to outside front tire width is something like 73 inches. Not sure about the rear.

Duals should be fine since they won't make it to the fenders. However the issue is gonna be the weight if your trailer has the small 5x4.5 axles.

I think its rated at 10k but it might be 7k I’d have to dig out the paper work. It’s definitely going to be heavy on it.

5, which I always thought meant 3500 lb axles, but I’ve been informed that they do make a 5000 lb 5 lug axle. I’m not sure I’ve ever seen them though, but if they do then maybe...

I live about 45 minutes from Newport News but no trailer or vehicle big enough to tow it. I'm going to be relocating to Northeast PA in the spring and didn't feel like driving my old truck all the way there, a friend of mine recommended these guys - I got quotes from $300 to $650 to transport it from Norfolk VA to Milford PA, but they use those auto transport trucks. Not sure if they could fit a dually on one of those so it might be more if they have to use a flatbed?

Yea I've always known 5 lug to be 3500 pound axles. That would give you the ability to tow roughly 4800-5k pounds.
