I just bought a 2012 F150 with a 5.0, crew cab 2WD. I notice a remarkable jolt when I accelerate from a complete stop an occasionally when I stop. I have only owned this truck for 2 weeks. Is this common or do I have a rear end or tranny problem? My mechanic has no idea and I haven't been to dealer yet. Too scared of the diagnosis.
It's called slip-bump and is a common problem with many makes of truck, not just Ford.
The jolt is the slip yoke on the driveshaft getting dry/sticky so it doesn't slide fluidly as the suspension cycles up and down. It feels kind of like somebody rear-ended you slightly. It's an easy fix (grease) but has to be redone occasionally. I'm really surprised your mechanic isn't aware of this.
