Hey guys, I need some advice/help! I have a 2000 4X4 ORP with a 4.0 OHV. 5-Speed manual. I have made the airbox mod, with great success. I made the MAF mod with great success. I have had these mods done for about 20K miles. Today, I went the Flowmaster route. 40 Series. Single in, dual 2.25s out. The original pie was cut off about 18 inches past the spring joint. Muffler installed there with two short pipes coming out there, exiting in front of the passenger’s side rear wheel.
Now, the sound is great (but a little “hissy” until it warms up) but it lost a LOT of power. It almost feels like it is bogging, very slow to rev out under load. It revs fine without a load, but acceleration is a DOG!
What is going on here?
What can I do to fix this?
I don’t want to have to re-do the exhaust, will resetting the ECM help? Undoing the MAF mod? Something else??
HELP!
I reset the ECM and it helped a bit, I replaced my tires (they NEEDed replacing before, just a coincidence) and that helped some. I blocked off one of the exhaust outlets and it made no difference. WHAT ELSE can I try? I really do not want to have to replace the muffler, since I just bought it, and I dont want to move the outlets, because they look *REALLY* good where they are coming out.
Maybe one of the guys who knows a little more about exhaust can help you out, but I was wondering if it is possible that your new setup is somehow restricting the flow of exhaust?
that is the exact same setup i have... i love it, you might want to get it checkd out, mine doesnt do that, the only thing different is yours is a manual and mine comes out the back. you might want to at least take it back and tell them whats going on where you got your exhaust, how were your pipes bent?
Well, I went back to the muffler place, got him to take the exhaust off past the spring joint and let me drive it to see the difference. HUGE difference. NO bogging, not sluggish at all! If was LOUD, but wound out like it is supposed to. He ended up putting a glasspack on it with a "Y-Pipe" so I got to keep the good-looking outlets.
