Transmission Flush
I installed a 6.0 trans cooler back in 2010. The transmission has never missed a beat and is working great. The trans has never overheated. The 6.0 cooler towing 12k even on the hottest day 165 degrees max (pillar gauge).
I have had the transmission flushed every 30K. The pan has never been dropped which means the filter has never been changed. I was told by two transmissions shops that it was not necessary to drop the pan and change the filter. They said "the filter is just a screen not really a filter". So, that is what I did.
The last time I had the transmission flushed I had Ford do it. Besides the flush they wanted to drop the pan and change the filter. For this, they wanted to almost double the cost of the flush. I thought they were just trying to rip me off so I said no.
Now, to my question. I am curious of the consensus on this forum to drop the pan and change the filter at each flush, or not?
Thanks for the input...

If you're truck has 197k miles on it and still has the original transmission filter you could have it changed. The best thing you have going for you is an auxiliary transmission cooler and regular fluid changes. Keep it up, especially if you tow often.
