Revised ABS Thread

Now after I posted this revised info below. I cleaned the brake switch on the pedal and the RABS light is out now. The cruise control is still not working. Any ideas of how to correct this now? Thanks Sandy

My Cruise control was not working yesterday and has previously worked fine. I noticed that the ABS light was on. My Ford reader shows no codes in KOEO, I have no check engine light, KOER test only shows code 225 which is knock sensor and dismiss if not pinging which it isn't, So now I have no codes or check engine only the ABS light. I have done a couple of panic stops and no lock up so it seems to be working, Brake fluid is MAX.

I don't really know what to check or where to start with this issue. Any advice is appreciated. The recall pertaining to the ABS has not been done but has never been an issue with 150K miles. Thank you Sandy

Does your red idiot light work for the brakes? Does it light when you turn your key to the "on" position? When you apply your parking brake?

I have a '96 F150 and my cruise stopped working it was because the sensor on the master cylinder went out and I didn't even know. I just went and had the recall work done and that fixed it. but it was fine one day and then nothing the next.

I ordered the correct recall replacement Motorcraft sensor today on Amazon. I have no idea if mine is bad or not but I want to prevent the fire potential of the old one. It was $13.00 and comes with the new harness. I would rather replace mine than take it to a dealership. In fact I would rather have a root canal than take my truck to them. thanks for your reply. Sandy

You cannot read RABS codes with a code reader. Two completely different systems that do not communicate to each other.

Thanks Randy. The RABS light went off by using contact cleaner on the switch and contacts on the brake pedal. I cleaned the cruise switches on the steering wheel. and I have no lights or codes and the Cruise still does not work. Perhaps the replacement sensor on the Master cylinder for the recall will fix it, but I am not to optimistic about that but it's a start. Do you have any suggestions for things to check? Brake fluid is full and fresh I have replaced all parts in both drums several thousand miles ago. Truck is running absolutely great thanks to you and others. Any advice from you will be greatly appreciated. Sandy
