wanting to install my dashcam this weekend and just wondering if I have to use the pass though wires on the passenger side to hard wire it. Going to use upfitter #6 so I can shut it off in my shop at night. can i just run the power thur the driver's side firewall to the bundle on that side? thanks and everyone have a good THANKSGIVING.
that is why I want to wire it to the upfitter #6 so I can leave it on when i'm parked either at work or in a store parking lot .I want to be able to use the motion detection. then when I park in my shop I just flip #6 to shut it off.
Most dash cams have a parked mode where they record when they sense activity. Inside a dark shop at night it would just be a battery drain.
yes, when they sense activity. When there is no activity, it is in standby mode (not recording) and acts like a motion sensor only. Once it detects motion, it starts recording again
with 3 wires (hot, switched and ground), it does it all for me.
I leave my dash cam hard wired for 3-4 weeks at a time with zero effect on the battery. No reason to use an upfitter.
This is the one in my truck and I bought a 2nd rear camera so I can unhook the front and put it in my car. The rear cams are installed in both vehicles.
My 15 doesn't have the 17s features so this may be a little over kill. It has lane departure warning, crash warning (someone in front of you brakes quickly) and also has a (forgot the name) "coo coo" bird sound if you are sitting at a red light and the car in front of you starts to go... and you don't go (not paying attention), it will "coo coo" at you to tell you to start going. They have a $130 off sale right now which is phenomenal
I also have the Lukas 9370 in my wife's Explorer but that has been discontinued.
It has built in wifi so I can connect it to my cell phone and watch/playback video instantly.
These are some of the top of the line cameras out there..
When you buy the hardwire kit (cheaper on Amazon for the kit), it has 3 wires as I stated. One goes to hot, one goes to switched power and then ground. What happens is when you shut the truck off, the switched power turns off which triggers the cam to go into power save mode. It will record if it detects motion for 30 seconds as well as if it detects an impact. The camera flashes red (little LED light) when in power save mode. It flashes blue when in full record mode.
Once you start up, it senses the switched power activate and turns itself into full record mode. So there is no need to power it on or off or worry about battery drain. It also tells you the battery volts of the vehicle and you can set a full power down . I have it set to 11.2 volts on full power down so it's impossible to drain your battery. But even after 3 weeks of idle time in my garage, I have never seen the batteries below 12volts.
I'd also highly recommend a UV filter.. it really helps with bright glare when driving.
I have the op2a by vicovation it is suppose to be one of the best, but I still would like to know about going though the fire wall or the pass though wires?

my ThinkWare F770 camera has a parking mode - helpful if someone hits you in a parking lot.
i wired my ThinkWare F770 (2 channel camera) - pigging-backing an ignition circuit and separate 12v (always hot) circuit that i found in the INTERIOR passenger side fuse panel - the fuse panel is in the passenger side kick panel.
