I have a 3d printer and have designed, printed, and used a handful of parts for my Wrangler and Boxster as well as plenty of other things. Does anyone have any links to printable parts for these trucks that I can search through. I will probably start designing stuff but I don't want to recreate something that may have already been created.
Not being of any help, but do salute your effort. 3D printing it going to be the future of classic vehicle maintenance / restoration. All those pesky small parts the factory abandoned years ago, could be a no problem situation. Used parts can't always be depended upon, used plastic parts here in Texas are as brittle as the ones I'm sweeping up.
Thanks! I am only printing PLA and TPU and some other flexible stuff. I will be getting another printer eventually and building an enclosure for ABS. I get my Raspberry Pi today so i can run my print server. That will make queuing stuff up to print much easier than previous.
I have looked on www.thingiverse.com as well as other sites and it is hard to search for things with the name 'ford' or 'f150' in it. Same problem on a lot of places that don't have 'filter by my vehicle' like amazon does.
It looks like a 3d printer will come in handy getting this thing to look good again.
Not for our trucks but a guy on the Kawasaki motorcycle forum printed some risers/mounts for larger speakers. So speaker enclosures for areas where speakers did not already have a place.
If someone is going to make anything for our trucks, I think the first thing should be the hinge covers for the 40/20/40 seats. If anyone has a pair of them in lousy condition in any color, I would like to try to find a way to recreate them with a 3d printer.

I've 3D printed small body parts (Saab jack covers), and it's not easy. On a MakerBot replicator 2, I used ABS plastic. I then spent a significant amount of time making the surface usable (ABS is not easy to paint).
The 3D printed part was not as strong, so metal tabs were used to hold it in place.
As technology advances, 3D printing will become more useful. It would be fantastic if bumper covers, custom intakes, and replacement grilles could be printed.
