F100 with CV Rear End Question

Hello all, I mounted my 2005 CV rear end in my '64 F100 today. The 2017 Mustang wheel and tires I bought are to wide and rub the rear fenders.

I have one CV steel wheel and it fits. My question, has anyone else installed the CV rear end with Mustang wheels that fit?

If so what year, size, style???

Thanks in advance, Pat

Pat you've seen mine. Supposedly a 2001 CVPI rearend. I don't know if there's a width difference between the two years.

The wheels are 17" Bullitts. I'm not sure where they came from. They have Ford center caps so I'm guessing they're not aftermarket, but there's no way to really know.

The tires are 235's so I wouldn't think the wheels would be much larger than 7". I do have enough room in the back to go to 245 tires.

Hey Mike, I can't tell you how disappointed I am with the tires rubbing. They are 235/55R17, 7 inch wide, so the only thing I can figure is the offset on 2017 rims isn't as much as a little older rim.

I have since picked up 3 more CV steel wheels with tires so I do have rollers for now and if need be that's what I will run in the end. I've had a couple of guys suggest going with a different rear end but the one I have has just 46,000 miles so I'm staying with it for now.

On a side note we have the front suspension resting in place and are deciding how far forward to put it. We set the front fenders in place today and right now we feel moving the center point 1 inch forward from stock looks pretty good.

See ya later...

I read somewhere that 94-04 Mustang 17x8s with 5.72 backspace are the ones that fit perfect.

I did a full frame swap on my 65 with a 2010 Interceptor. I had to trim the wheel lips to clear the 235's on factory steel wheels. I think the pre 2001 Vic rear ends are narrower. Also the older Explorer rear ends.

The Explorer 8.8s are very close to the same width as the stock 9 inch from a slick. 98-02 Crown Vics i've heard are a couple inches more narrow than the 03 and up Crown Vic 8.8s.

Measure the back spacing on the wheels that you know fit, and you'll need to match that on whatever final wheel you want. It's easy to measure. Put a board across the back of the wheel and measure from the board down to the wheel mounting surface.
