FORD tailgate badge

i have a 75 F100 Ranger XLT, And I am missing all of the tailgate trim, I have seen that the XLT was loaded with all kinds of trim, but I am thinking of just starting with the FORD emblem as a start. The inner section measures about 54" x 3.5" . Came upon one at a junkyard today and did not have any tools on me so they are going to pull it off for me and I am going back in a couple of days, my concern is when I got home, I recall the badge I looked at as much taller than 3.5", are there multiple sizes of this type of badge or do all of the Ford emblems on the tailgate the same size for 73-79?

Here is a pic of my bare tailgate.

Your tailgate is an aftermarket replacement, it's not an original.
No tailgate on trucks of this vintage had a Ford emblem. Tailgate was embossed FORD .. but if the lower tailgate finish panel was in place (Stylesides), it had FORD letters on it.

Ford blue oval emblem was installed on Styleside tailgates beginning in 1983, it had two locating pins, but it glued on.

Stylesides: 1973/79 Ranger XLT and 1978/79 Lariats came with upper and lower anodized aluminum tailgate finish panels.

Rangers only had the lower finish panel, Customs had none.

Pic of "original genuine Ford" 1973/79 F100/350 Styleside tailgate. If you want to see the finish panels, I can post the pic.

Ok, so my question then would be if the anodized aluminum tailgate finish panels were all the same size during the 73-79 models? The picture above is of my truck, it appears as there is space for both upper and lower panels to be applied, Does the size of the lower panel that has FORD on it remain the same through all of the year models I mentioned?

thanks,
james

I believe the answer to your question is yes...from what I've seen the finish panel you're asking about were all the same for 73-79. If you need one let me know.

If your just looking for a Ford emblem, I used one off of a early 00’s F150, I think. I know it’s not on a tailgate, but good for scale.

I have a stack of the 'Ford' finish panel shown in JessyJ's picture, however I think the lower strip molding and upper molding around the tailgate handle are the hard to find pieces. Maybe its just me. They are always really beat up and bent. If the truck in the junkyard has these two pieces, get them as well.

ok, so my tailgate is a reproduction! I did not realize that, but the emblem should still fit fine I assume, as it sounds like they all were the same size.

unfortunatly the only piece on the tailgate in the junkyard is the emblem with FORD on it. I do not have any of the other pieces, or the trim around the tail lights that also kind ties in the trim on the bed.

I have seen a truck with a full trim tailgate and none of the trim around the tail lights. IMO, it looks strange. Like the tailgate is out of place. The rounded edges on the tail light trim really complete the look.

I have the Finish panel now..... Does anyone have a link on how to install this badge on my truck. I understand someone posting instructions on doing it but have been having trouble finding the link using advanced search.

thanks for the help in advance.

I set my new badge up against my bumper and it appears to be too large, The one I purchased from the junkyard was off a 76' but it looks much larger.... thoughts? I know if hav an aftermarket tailgate, but does it mean I need a different badge?

Found the thread, but I need to update my account to view pics? Also I am concerned about the size of my badge, seems to be way too large? See pic above, not sure if my issue is the aftermarket tailgate?

Here re is the pic viewing error

My tailgate flat area where the badge may go is 53" x 3".
my actual badge is approx 61.5" x 5"

perhaps being able to see the pics of the installation may answer my question.
