New process 435

Does anyone know why a N.P. 435 from a 71 wouldn't fit a 66 model truck both with FE engines?

It is the bell that matters. Do the bells have the same depth, (transmission side) bolt pattern, and housing bore diameter?

Bore changed in 71

66 to 70 bore is 5.125

71 to 87 is 4.848

You need the later bell housing with the smaller bore.

TWO different FE bell housings, doesn't matter if it's a 3 M/T; 3 M/T with O/D (F100); T-18/NP435 4 M/T

#1) 1965 F100/250 4WD; 1965/66 F350; 1966 F250 4WD: These trucks use the same engine mounting system as 1961/64 292.

#2) 1965/66 F100/250 2WD; 1966 F100 4WD; 1967/76 F100/250 2WD/4WD & F350.

Thanks guys, my 66 had no trans when I bought it. Someone robbed it before me. I found one advertised out of a 71 for 100.00. As long as I can make it work by changing bellhousings or bearing retainers it sounds like it's a good purchase.

1965/79: Three different NP435 front bearing retainers.

See 7050 along with the specs in pic from 1964/72 catalog. 1977: Ford replaced C5TZ-7050-A with D7TZ-7050-A

Well I bought that trans. Gave him 50.00 for it. The tag says it came from a 78 however.

Not true. All of the 2WD NP 435s in the 65/66 F100/F250 had the 4.849 outside diameter bearing retainer. I didn't check the 4WD PNs but I suspect they are also 4.849.

If you look at the list that ND posted it gives the diameter for the 4WD trucks as 5.125" (3rd part number from top), however you can use a reducer to bring it from that size down to one of 2 possible other sizes with something like this. Likely others out there, too.

Decode doesn't give you any additional info than what you already know.
