barry-I don't think the '66 F100 4x4 and the 65-66 F100 2wd are the same?
I looked for awhile and found the '66 F100 2wd was alone. Maybe I'm mixed up again!
You could be right, I just printed what it said in my parts books. I'm not an expert on these trucks, by no means! I'd hate to see any good used ones crushed as they're so hard to come by.
You don't live where they use calcium cloride in the sand mix and it sticks under vehicles and works all year round to eat away at the metal. Every humid day it activates from moisture and keeps at it! You're lucky!
There are some changes in 65 alone. It seems that half way thru the production year in 65 Ford changed to the 66 style. The early 65 2wd radiator mounts to a channel type bracket, in late 65 they changed the radiator so that these brackets were not required. The 66 style is much easier to come buy but you will have to change the radiator and battery tray or if those parts are still good on your truck you can re-use them.
My 65 got hit in the front end and I replaced the support with a 66 style. I didn't notice the differance until after the trip to the junk yard. I actualy made my new brackets out of stainless steel. It came out good but I would have rather have had the originals.
Putt is spot on, 65 & 66 4X4 use the same support core as the 61-64 did, so the original questions' answer is, Yes the twin I beam, 2 Wd, chassis configuration takes a different support core than the earlier single I beam trucks.
jd sylvia also's spot on. There were 2 support cores in 65. The 2nd one being a C6TZ type, or 66 model. Like he says it's readily adaptable to early style twin I-Beam frames which is what Barrys' post shows, so Barry is also spot on.
I believe C6TZ version superceded the original C5TZ in Feb or Mar of 66. What I am not sure of is why FoMoCo did that. But then I'm not sure why FoMoCo does anything, and sometimes I think even they don't know why they do things. They certainly didn't or don't check with me. Altho' their TSBs were priceless God-Sends. I still thank them for their great TSB program. Saved my "bacon" more than a few times!
