Leaking Oil Pan

I have a leaking oil pan due to rustbelt living. Any big deal putting in a new one? I am pretty mechanical but if it takes a lot of time that could be the factor. Does anyone make an Aluminum one to replace the steel stock one?

Leaking Oil Pan

There isnt a gasket i know of for the 7.3L (T444E). Ive heard of people getting a rubber one from NAPA or Autozone but ive never seen one. It is sealed w/ a special sealant that you have to use a razor blade(special tool) to cut it to seperate it from the block. Good Luck doing that, ive done so many of those oil pans its not even funny and have had to beat the dang pan off everytime. thank Navistar for that wonderful design. Its a real pain in the butt job especially in a Ford (or under warranty ) Everyone ive seen done or did myself always removed the engine(Ford only) for lack of room getting the pan out. And yes we install new oil pans everytime and are quoted with the job. People have used all kinds of stuff to seal the pan and i personally use the original sealant that they use at the factory. Make sure you have a nice beed all the way around the pan, make sure the block is perfectly clean or youll be doing it again, install the pan making sure not to loose any of the sealant, torque the bolts down evenly across. you have to let that sealant sit for 24-48 hours to cure. I havent had one come back leaking yet (knock on wood). lol you can get the sealant through your local International dealer, get the one that comes in the caulking tube. much easier to use.

Leaking Oil Pan

Well I guess regardless of whether it is the seal, or for me the rusted oil pan, I have a job ahead of me. Thanks for the info -
