I have a 99 f150 4x4. It always has worked great till yesterday when i engaged it, it makes the front divers side tire wanna drag almost lock up. Any ideas where to start looking?
My bet is an issue in the front carrier.
When the Actuator locks up the one CV axle you have the problem.
Both CV axles are splined into the front Hubs and turn with the wheels full time.
Its not until the Actuator locks up the one axle that you have the issue as I understand your post.
The motor should also labor under this condition because the 4wd front drive shaft is also trying to turn the carrier.
I could be wrong but that is the power flow through that part of the drive train.
Good luck.
