Not that Wiki is totally accurate, but the Wikipedia entry on the 2018 Expy says that the King Ranch is gone. I'm guessing it really was redundant with such a small hole between the Limited and Platinum models, and the small Expy sales volumes. And with the price increases on the 2018, I can't see a great deal of demand for 2 slots above the well-equipped Limited model.
XLT is gonna have the FX4 version added which will appeal to a "tough" demographic that includes me. They are also stating the existence of an XL name for the fleet versions.
I don't think the King Ranch sold many units on the Expy... The F series sells at 12X the volume of the Expy so Ford can split up the F series more.
In my looking at leftover 2017 Expys, it seems like 20% of dealer stock was XLT's and the remaining 80% was Limiteds, with most dealers having fewer than 5 Expys in stock but what seems like 100 F150's
I think Chevy and GMC operate with 3 model lines for the Tahoe/Yukon, like SLE/SLT/Denali. Something like the King Ranch is almost more like an appearance package, like the 2017 (blacked out) Limited appearance package on the Expy, so Ford could certainly package some trim levels as appearance packages if they wanted in the future.
I think Chevy is doing a blackout package on the Tahoe which may be more in fashion than a brown ranch vibe. Dodge does some great appearance packages on the Durango also, and they can change them up from year to year.
