I went to check my timing today and the marker doesn't look anything like the picture in the haynes manual. am i suppoed to line it up with that tip or in that groove? good luck I guess that I was able to stop the engine with the groove right there, but that clot with the white marks, is that the balancer marker? when i put the light on it it appears on that next piece closer to the fan. I am a little worried. I did unplug the spout connector, but the tiing mark i see it way to the left and i don't think it would run right it it were that far out. thanks in advance guys
Tahat groove cut into the harmonic balances is not the timing mark. You will need to get a wire bruch and really clean the balancer. Eventually you will find timing marks that indicate 1 degree increments from 20 degrees BTDC to 10 Degrees ATDC. When you locate these, scrub them clean with the wire brush, you want to clean out the marks. Then take a peice of chalk and rub the entire area over the marks. Then use you finger to wipe away the excess chalk, leaving only the chalk in the timing mark grooves. Then slap the light on and you will be able to time the brute properly.
modemman : you know im glad you caut that. he was asking bout the pointer and i did even pay atention to the balancer, SHAME on me! but your right he needs to look for the timming scale! DW
ILMAO when I saw his pix...looked just like my balancer complete with the chalk in the groove and me scratching my head wondering what the h*** is going on here
Thanks guys. I was just about to ask that questionwhen I was using that mark the times was way off. I saw those marks on the balancer but I thought they were if your light didn't have a dial on it.
