I have a 1955 F-100 that doesn't have the original rating plate (glove box door is missing), but I can read the VIN from the frame rail. As many of you know, the model, engine, year, manufacturing plant, and sequential (serial) number can be gleaned directly from the VIN, but some of the information (color, transmission, rear axle gear ratio, etc.) cannot be obtained directly from the VIN.
My question, then, is if there is a cross-reference to the sequential/serial number in the VIN that was maintained at the manufacturing facility from which this information can be somehow retrieved.

No info like this is available, because FoMoCo THREW AWAY all the records for these trucks decades ago.
In fact, nothing is available for any car or truck prior to 1967.

I was afraid of that, but it's good to know for sure, and I thank you. I was just curious to find out what the exact original color was (it's one of the two blues) and the transmission, which looks like it was was on the floor, but no way of knowing for sure (motor/tranny gone). Thanks again!

There were 3 blues for 1955. Trans with floor shift (if original) would be the Borg-Warner T-98 4 speed.
Not sure if this will help you but there is 2 blues listed here but for 56.
Thanks, but the 53-55s are a bit different. In 55, there were actually 3 different shades of blue (not 2 as I stated earlier)... Banner, Aquatone, and Waterfall... and I have no clue how to differentiate them without the codes. Oh well... gonna paint this baby green when the time comes!

3 blues: I beat you to it...See COLOR chart in post #5 and to differentiate them, you will need to look at paint chip charts.
