Need some help from you gurus. I just got done replacing my oil cooler and other misc parts. After putting in fresh coolant, I took the truck on a test drive roughly 160 miles through mountainous terrain to see if I fixed the overheating issue. Much to my satisfaction, the oil and coolant temps were right where they should be. However, on my trip back home I was involved in a small accident where a car sideswiped me on the highway . While stopped after the accident and doing an overall check of damage, I noticed a good drip of coolant coming from the right front of the engine. There was coolant spray on the inside of the hood also front right. After getting truck home, about 70 miles, I couldn't replicate the leak so I refilled coolant. Still driving truck (only running vehicle right now for a family of 5) and have strong smell of coolant once truck warms up. I'm losing roughly 1/2 gallon per trip into town. I can't find a leak anywhere but it smells like coolant is cooking off the engine. I am attaching pictures of where the leak was after the accident. Can anyone help shed light on this for me? What should I be thinking of? What could be causing the coolant loss with the heavy smell? Thank You in advance for any advice you can give.

Looking up from below.

Did you delete your EGR Cooler? External coolant leak seems to point to oring or gasket issues. Give your engine a good clean and and see if you can isolate the leak from the top of the engine. Look at the silicone connection (blue or orange ) to see if it's leaking from there?
EGR was deleted by previous owner. I don't see any leak from up top. The coolant only spayed the hood one time. Looked like it came from below alternator somewhere.
What was the condition of the doughnut seal that is sandwiched between the intake and front cover? Did you replace it? Was the seal area pitted or corroded?
See arrow.
There's a hard pipe just to the left of that yellow arrow. That also carries coolant and may be leaking. It connects to a hose just beside your alternator and then continues on to your heater core.

I will get that area cleaned up and keep an eye out. Not seeing a fresh leak, but getting that strong smell is frustrating!
I just did one of these last weekend. I told him I couldn’t guess without taking some things apart but mentioned the hardline, doughnut gasket, front cover and water pump. After getting the fan, shroud, and radiator out, there was coolant on pretty much everything including the underside of the hood. Pulled the pulley off the water pump and there was a stain from the slot just above the tiny freeze plug on the pump. The outside of the pulley was (oddly) dry. Replaced the pump, dropped the radiator back in and rented a coolant system pressure tester from ORileys. Sprayed soapy water on the doughnut, hardline, and anything else that had coolant in it. No leaks. If it turns out to be the pump leaking on your truck I recommend skipping the Wagner, it has a lifetime warranty but I have re-replaced a couple of them now.

Finally able to get started on truck. It's definitely the water pump. I started getting a squeal from the bearings and found this active leak this morning. I'll be dropping a new water pump in. I'll take any and all advice I can get from the gurus here.
