Hello all. My truck is a 5.4 gas 2001 f250 SD. The truck cranks but does not start. My neighbor says fuel pump is not coming on. At my inertia switch when I turn the key prior to cranking, I have 12 volts for a few seconds on both the red and green wire. Is there anything else downstream I need to check before replacing fuel pump. Without a lot of demo, can you access wiring harness or pump to check voltage to it. If so, how would I do that. The truck has 175,000 miles and no new fuel pump in the 100,000 I have had it so probably one never. Assuming I need one, is this from Parts Geek ok (see also attachment). It seems the best price.

Just measure the fuel pressure at the rail under the hood. Much easier than crawling underneath and using a multimeter.

^^^^ THIS!!!!!! Your fuel pump can be running (pumping fuel); which your multimeter will show that it is getting power, but it will not tell you whether you have enough fuel pressure or not.
a volt meter will tell if 12 volts is there.. but not if pump is spining
an AMP meter will show power used.. but if pump is "Stalled" it will only draw a little more then a normal working pump.
measure pressure at fuel rail. some auto parts stores offer a loan of a meter...
Realistically, BOTH checks should usually be done most of the time.
If you go with only the fuel pressure test, you will know whether or not there is fuel pressure but you will not know WHY. Making the voltage check will tell you if power is being applied to power the pump. Listening for the pump to run can make the voltage check unnecessary IF (and only IF) you can hear the pump run. If you don't hear it, you still don't have enough information to determine if you have a pump problem or a pump control problem.
Is there anything else downstream I need to check before replacing fuel pump.
There isn't a whole lot left. Just the wiring harness, connectors, and the ground for the pump. Most are inaccessible until you drop the tank or lift the bed.
I'd give the diagnosis of a failed fuel pump about a 98% probability of being correct based on the information provided.

Just to be clear, this is a "normal" startup sequence.
When first turning the ignition to Run the PCM will run the fuel pump for a few seconds to pressurize the fuel rails.
Now is a good time to check the fuel pressure in the rail.
When the ignition switch is turned to Start the PCM will decide if it's ok to start the engine and turn the fuel pump on.
Does the 12v at the inertia switch come back on in Start?
If not there is something else not working upstream.
An adequate fuel pressure tester is available at Harbor Freight for $20 - #62623.
...the PCM will decide if it's ok to ....turn the fuel [back] pump on.
It does this by looking at the crank sensor signal to see if the engine is actually firing. If the rail didn't pressurize for whatever reason, the PCM won't try to turn the pump back on because the engine won't be firing.
