LED light strip under taigate

I'm trying to install LED light bar under the tailgate and when I took the tailgate off there was a little bracket bolted to the back of the bed with a slot for a tab that is on the tailgate itself, it's on the right side. what is the purpose to it? it's in the way of where the light bar goes!!

I`m not sure what it`s for but i`m sure it`s there for a reason which more than likely, is a feature or an option that`s available for your year and model of truck but is part of a different trim level.

No, it`s not in the way of where the light bar goes because the light bar is not an OEM part that came on the truck as standard equipment or as an option.

With that being said, you can always just cut it off.

Not sure if it's for the step, my cousin has a 14 and I'm pretty sure it has the slot as well.

I'm not sure but it could be where you put the plug for your backup camera/ power lock when you take the tailgate off.

got a picture of it? There is an added support for trucks with the tailgate step, without the steps there are two threaded holes.

Yah. I do not have the tailgate step, and I just have the two threaded holes on the right side. No tab.
