ran into this issue twice in the last 2 days. both in front of a convenience store, lots of lights message board and such. had to have the fob in the console. clerk knew of the problem and said it only happens to fords not gm or dodge. ford has a problem with proper control of external radio wave interference. what if you need to get to the doc and did not know about this problem or something worse. looks like this has been going on for some time. Good luck everyone.
The manual in the glove box is not for a paper weight. How about READING it. Then every owner would know about where to put the fob.

Isn't it amazing just how much info is in that thing. But, alas, many do not read it. But, the EMI from un-shielded or poorly shielded electronics will affect key fobs, cell phones, radios and wireless internet connections, I see it everyday at work. Folks walk into some of our building with Variable Frequency Drives and do not understand why their cell phones have no signal, or their tablets can not connect to our wireless network. Our stuff is shielded but it still happens.
Yup the manual is important, it tells us to have the key inside the passenger compartment. Another part says it can be effected by metal, another about how to pair. This forum has several explanations of what has happened and what has been found to get going again. Thanks to all that gave helpful answers. Luck to you all.
Currently having issues. Out of nowhere it wouldn't detect my key. Could not unlock my door with the handle and would not start without my key in the cup holder cubby. Key works perfect from a distance, still unlocks and remote starts. I thought it might be the battery in the fob, so I got my spare, still didn't work. Changed the battery, still did nothing. Have not changed the battery in the truck yet. I'm just getting aggravated.
I have had this problem as well and typically my phone or another object is in the same pocket as the key. This causes interference and attenuation of the signal the key emits.

okay... so what did you do to fix it? If you take it away does it work or did you just have to do something else? I haven’t carried another key. And I’ve even switched to my spare, still didn’t work.
If you can lock and unlock with fob but not start is strange. If you have read all the info on here then it is most likely time to go visit the dealer. Good luck.
