Like they said,....usually the stud will come out fairly easily.
If the stud has some meat sticking out I use a Sears Craftsman stud remover. Always works.

If the stud is broken off flush or under flush, use some penetrant and try to manually turn it out with a pick or similar tool.
The studs typically break due to corrosion on the stud shaft in the manifold area, not from binding in the threads.
Welding a nut to the stud is the method of last resort.

I've used a small nail with a extra small drop of gel style crazy glue on the head. Hold it to the stud until it sets, leave it for an hour or so then try and back it out easy. Just use a tiny amount of the glue, you don't want it running into the threads. I use the gel style because it's less likely to run.
