The stock replacement single CD player will need to be from one of these:
If you want the in-dash 6-CD changer you'll need it from one of these:
I'm not going to bother (at this point) giving you the interchange information for a center console-mounted CD changer because that would involve you removing one (that still has a CD cartridge in it) and also removing the wire, connector, and mounting hardware from a donor truck and installing all of it on your truck.
Hope this helps. ~dsf

Generally speaking, with the exception of the aforementioned wiring harness issues related to the remote CD changer in a center console, the radios/cassettes/CD's are interchangeable in any 97 thru 2003 F-series truck and in early 2004 (Heritage Edition) trucks. This does NOT apply to Lightning model F-series trucks as they had aftermarket-equipped sound options.

I'd be interested in buying your radio if everything works. Mine works but the display don't work so I can't see the station or the time.

Darksideforge,
Thanks for the information. I'm about to replace my brother-in-law's factory AM/FM tape player (2001 XL) and wanted to simply replace with the factory CD upgrade. The stock numbers you list are helpful.
Would I be correct to expect the stock wiring & plugs to match/fit between the listed units?
Greg

Greg,
The plugs themselves will almost certainly fit....whether or not you will get full functionality is another question. It will depend on how many speakers your XL came equipped with and whether your original harness is equipped with power in the right place to power the CD player...but it SHOULD be plug-and-play.

My stock AM/FM/CD player was not playing CDs and sounded horrible anyway. I replaced the deck with a Kenwood AM/FM/CD with Bluetooth. I put in an adapter plate with a small storage shelf below the deck and 4 5X7 4-way Scosche speakers. Did it ALL for about $200CDN. Now I have stereo sound worthy of such a good truck.
I didn't have to do any cutting or modifications. Just remove and replace.
