ok here's the thing
my fiancee and I have chosen our first song to dance to at our reception.
The second song involves me and my mother, my fiancee and her father, and the wedding party dancing with their appropriate opposites.
What song would you recommend with this in mind:
- We don't want to convey the image (with the song) that we want to make love to our parents, or the wedding party who aren't dancing with their "real life" partners.
- She doesn't feel AC/DC Thunderstruck is proper music
- I don't like Bette Midler
Let your future wife do most of the decisions for the wedding. The groom just has to show up, clean, showered and shaved.
She will pick the right song, and you won't have to worry about it right? After all, are you that emotional that choosing the song is a big deal for you? The wedding is a bigger thing for the woman and her mother than it will be for you, let her choose.
One tip... take some brand new clean athletic shoes, sneakers, whatever, to wear when things get a little less formal. You probably won't like the fancy dress shoes you wear during the ceremony, they get pretty uncomfortable after standing for a few hours. Nice black ones don't stand out in pictures. Your feet will love you for it later.
Relax and enjoy your wedding day. It will be the last bit of peace you will have for a long time ;^)
I guess that leaves out "99 Bottles of Beer on the Wall" (one of my personal favorites)...Hey you knew you couldn't get out of a little good-natured ribbing on this one
Lets see...For her and her father..."Butterfly Kisses" by Bob Carlisle - an absolutely beautiful song...here is a link to the lyrics - http://www.bobcarlisle.com/bklyrics.htm
Hmmm, for our reception (in May '03) we knew none of our family would dance so we set up my stereo and played a few of our favorite songs. THe only song my husband and I danced to was kind of a private joke between us (Redneck Girl ~ Bellamy Brothers) and the rest of the time we just set the stereo on random. Enya is really good for some uncomprehendable mumbo-jumbo (I can't understand her anyway) but really good music. Was nice background noise too, when we turned the music down.

I may have to reassess.
In August my brothers and sisters decided to get together at the graveyard in Centralia, IL and pull weeds, paint and fix up my parents plots. I thought a music CD was in order to comemorate the occasion and asked for suggestions. My niece, who took an active part in the 60's revolution, suggested the song. I had never heard of it, but I got a copy of it. I liked it and I thought it would be appropriate at both weddings and grave yard activities.
Thanks for spelling it right. I did the best I could.

good point... I think your just supposed to smile and say " yes dear" and let her think your playing an active part in planning the wedding... when me and mine got married... for the most part she took care of the wedding and I took care of the honeymoon
