Maximum Cargo Weight

In trying to determine how high I needed the tire load index to go, short of visiting the CAT scales (which I plan to do shortly), I see in the Ford 2016 Towing Guide on page 10 (F-Series Pickup/Camper Combination Selector), for my truck (2016 F350 4x4 SRW SuperCab 158" 6.7L diesel with camper package), the max cargo weight is 3,174.

The interesting thing is that in the sidebar is the notation: "Cargo Weight Rating shown in chart is maximum allowable, assuming weight of base vehicle with required camper option content and a 150-lb passenger at each available seating position." Since there are seat belts for 6 in the SuperCab, I assume this means adding 900lbs to the 3174, and then subtracting the weight of who ever is in the vehicle. Accounting for my wife and I, totaling 300lbs, this would mean the max cargo of 3,774lbs. Also, is it reasonable to assume that Ford's calculations of max cargo weight factors in a full fuel tank (37.5 gal x 6.943 lbs/gal = 260lbs)?

Load E rated tires should handle anything you liad onto the truck (within specs). Presumably your truck came with E rated tires (unless you bought it used and someone changed thrm).

go to Cat scales... with full tank of fuel.. the people you plan to take...
most "Stuff" you plan to take...

then take Cat Ticket weight minus total allowed carry weight.= what you can carry.

but tire rating is the weakest link... sometimes.

assuming weight of base vehicle
You also have to subtract all the options on the vehicle, which add some weight to each of the front and rear axles. "Base" means "without extra options," not "fully optioned and empty."

So yes, go get weighed.

Total payload is GVWR minus fuel, people, and any gear. And you can not exceed either the front or rear GAWR. Or the GCVWR when towing
