Hmm. I don't see how you will compensate for belt stretch. Would be better of there was a tensioner in there somewhere. Also seems like quite a lateral load on that alternator bearing, but that's just me. Can you just run a single belt? Deeper coolant pump pulley?

I don’t have a “lateral load” answer, but the alternator was cheap...I fabricated (jerry-rigged) the mount so that it pivots in two places so I can adjust both belts on two different axis, I dunno if you can tell from the pictures.

on second thought, it does look like a Rube Goldberg fantasy!
I guess I gotta go back to the drawing board...
Double sheave on the crank pulley I guess?

It doesn't appear that the spacing of belts on the alternator pulley is matched to the spacing of the engine's crank and WP pulleys.

the belt runs look parallel to me (3rd pic)
but the wp pulley can be washered out,
and the alternator can be moved fore and aft...

That doesn’t look half bad for a first try. I think you can simplify if you can move the alt pivot to what looks like the original pivot mount on the block. I will give it a think and try to respond tomorrow. You look like you also have a welder. That will make improvements easier!

The pivots are eccentric to adjust each belt separately.
I do have a gasless mig welder from ? by way of EBAY.
Believe me, what you see there is the third version, with several “improvements “

You are gaining knowledge in this process at the expense of having to reverse engineer.
Is there some reason you couldn't just use the upper left coolant pump bolt for the bitter end (second hole) of the alternator adjusting arm (as in the OEM installation)?
I'm sticking by my suggestion of a deeper coolant pump pulley and a single belt.
Very nice work and pictures.

The chrome thing had to be a certain height and adjustable to follow the different positions the alternator may have to move to get proper belt adjustment. A single belt would have been easier, but I liked the dual belt idea (for some reason, I thought that a long single belt would be more prone to stretch) plus the dual belt set up kept me from modifying those hard to find pulleys...!

thanks for the compliment, and “reverse engineering” kinda sums up my typical approach

Looks nice, but do you realize you are slowing down the water pump rpm by driving it off a small diameter alternator pulley?

so wait

the big crank pulley is driving the little alternator pulley faster, the faster alternator pulley isn’t driving the waterpump the same as it would be driven by the crank pulley?
