4x4 Transfer Case Question.
I have an interesting 4x4 issue, and I'm not really finding much info on what it is doing online/ the forums.....
A little pre-text info on it, my four wheel drive is currently not working, and the front hubs are locked ON. I'm replacing them with warn hubs this week. Also the the switch doesn't work, when I hook a scanner up to it and look at the data, I can see everything is good, but the transfer case statues says unknown. Also I can hear something on startup that sounds like a T-case going through (gears) under the truck.
The problem that is boggling my mind once in a while after startup, The truck doesn't move, almost like the T-case in in neutral, I have to shut the truck down to get it in park, that also points to T-case, all it needs is a restart and I'm good to go all gears work.

If you will go down to the '99-'03 7.3L forum and search for "4x4 not working", you will find a ton of material I have posted there on troubleshooting and repairing 4x4 system.
I have uploaded charts, troubleshooting procedures and theory of operation, and it all applies to your vehicle...even if you don't have a 7.3L. You need a scanner that will pull GEM codes. That is where your 4x4 trouble codes are stored. I use a New Generation Star tester (old Ford dealership find) to pull these codes. You gotta have the codes...
