I work in a highly statistical environment. I'll try to use some of that information to make a point.
Assume I had 1 billion parts manufactured. If, I found 2 in a small sample that had character X, do you think I would assume those are the only two? No! Now, knowing that I probably had more than two with character X, I have to assume that they are just part of a distribution of parts with that character and given a normal distribution, these parts are most likely representative of the middle of the distribution (somewhere in the middle of the bell curve where the majority of the population exists). They are not the best or the worst, the biggest or the smalllest, the smartest or the dumbest.
Given a normally distributed group of life forms, it is statistical suicide to assume we are the most intelligent.
Given a distribution of universal proportion (big beyond comprehension), it is safe to assume that if there are other life forms there are more intelligent, substantially more intelligent life forms.
Which brings me back to the assumption that they would have been here to say "hello" (a successful civilization) or to take our stuff (a civilization more like us, running out of resources).
yeah..i'm going to have to agree here that it would be ignorant of us to think that first, we were the only ones, and secondly, that we were the most intelegent ones. After all who knows, maybe evlis really was an alien. LOL And the whol thing about bringing about control of the planet, not in the us anyhow, we'd start shooting before they landed, ya know how we all love our guns.
according to my research, extra terrestrial aliens do exist.. What annoys me is that none of them have come to congratulate my logic..
I have seen weather balloons.. I have seen ufos too, but nothing conclusive - it depends on the company you are with as to what you think you saw.. ***** of light flying around in the desert look neat until a non meteorological inclined companion screams UFOs.
A new career for me would be missionary to the little green men.

In our small corner of the universe (planet Earth), life has been found in places with conditions that we would consider impossible for life to exist. A good book that addresses rusty70f100's question is titled: "The Quest - a search for extraterrestrial life" written by Tom Allen. This book was published in the 1970's and my mom presented me with a copy of it back in 1973 for one of my birthdays. (I used to watch Star Trek alot back then.) Unfortunately, I can't find my copy of the book right now because I loaned it to a friend and He thinks that someone else has the book at this time. To make a long story short; the possibility of intelligent life in other locations of the universe other than planet Earth exists-- the possibility of intelligent life in the other locations of the universe to exist at the same time as our "civilization era" and have the ability to contact us during their own "civilization era" is small. (Communication between distant areas being limited, due to the slow speed of light and/or radio waves when applied to such distances.) I like AegisSailor's statement about the timing of the "Alien solar system startup" Instead of starting up at the same time, say our alien solar system friends had a "late start" compared to us. On their planet, the Trilobites (or equal) may still rule!!! Of course, Aegis said If.... Another way to look at it would be that our Alien Solar System Friends would have an earlier start up time. This would give them the time to develop "superior culture, technology, and social systems, etc." and explain why we have not been contacted by them because they have either killed themselves with their own advanced technology, socialized themselves into interstellar bankruptcy, or reached a level of culture that eliminates the need for exploration. I hope that our planet can avoid those pitfalls.
We already have proof (or at least we did have it). Roswell NM. A saucer crashed. Bodies were seen. One day they reported a crashed saucer. The next day they said it was a weaher balloon. Don't you think an army intelligence officer knows the difference between an alien spacecraft and a weather balloon?
Have you, or anyone here for that matter, ever seen an alien? Have you or any of your friends ever seen one with proof of the sighting? Sorry, but none of my friends have been abducted lately.
So what's your point. Excluding you and your friends, there are still over 6 billion people on this planet. Many of them have reported seeing UFOs. Project Blue Book discredited most of the sightings reported to the USAF but there where still several hundred that they couldn't disprove.
