Which sender is for temp gauge?

Been doing the search for 1/2 hour... 92 f350 7.3IDI. There is a temp sender up high in the thermostat housing and another lower in the head. My temp gauge stopped working around the time my fuel return line cracked and was spraying for a while onto that area. I thought I read once that the fuel can wreck the sender. Anyhow my local napa has two senders, one called engine temp and the other called coolant temp. Which is which between the two locations? Maybe a napa number? Thanks

on my 88 the one in the driver side head is for the gauge, and the one under the alternator near the thermostat neck is for the high idle solenoid and glow plug controller.

Would this be the same for 1992 7.3 IDI? My coolant gage is not working and I am going to start with the sensor. I have no faith in my local parts store. The sensor on the driver's side in the head is a stud with a slip on connector. The sensor near the thermostat housing is a two wire plug in connector. I have checked thru some of the posts and I am totally confused. My service manual points towards the driver's side head but I have no faith that is correct....HELP!!

The Ford part number on the driver's side sensor on my 92 reads E3TF-10b843-aa. Is this the coolant temperature sensor for the gage?

the one on the head should be for the gauge on all idi engines. to test the sensor, remove the wire from it and ground it out. the gauge should peg full hot and the check engine light should come on.
i found this out many many years ago when i steam cleaned my engine and the sensor got water in it and shorted it out.
it has pegged the gauge and turned the check engine light on every time i have pressure washed the engine.
then it takes 3-4 days for the sensor to dry out and return to normal operation.

Thanks Tom, I disconnected and shorted the wire to the sensor (driver's side head) and no change in gauge or no warning light. Thinking it must be the gauge. I have noticed that the gauge sweeps further down (towards cold) when I turn the key to the on position.

that tells me it is either the gauge, or the wires or a connection is bad somewhere between the sensor and the gauge.
