I just picked it up yesterday. I haven't owned a diesel since high school when I had a Jimmy with a Detroit Diesel (gutless).
It's a 1995 7.3 4x4, E4OD with 160k on the clock and approximately 10k on rebuild. The guy I bought it from had it about 2 years and sold it due to never driving it so he couldn't remember everything the previous owner did.
So far I know it has:
4:10 gears and the rear end is always locked - which I don't like on dry turns.
It has a tuner where I can select 1 to 6 with 6 throwing you in the seat pretty hard and shooting out a black cloud. 4 inch exhaust straight piped
() and it appears the down pipe has been changed out.
It has a few bugs I'm trying to figure out such as the rear drivers side brake locking up under normal braking and vent fan only working on high speed but it runs and drives straight and I couldn't be happier!
Nice looking ride! There is a resister in the heater box that when goes bad, the fan will only run in high mode. The resister is a little coiled wire looking thing. Just a guess on the brake, but maybe the return spring is broken. Time to pull the drum and inspect.

I just ordered a new resister, thanks! I should hopefully have some time to pull the drum off this weekend and I'll take a look at it.
Nice truck! Why in the world was it rebuilt with only 160k on it? Was it a quality rebuild?
Thanks! From what I was told, he wanted to race the truck and built it up. Who knows how true that is but it would kind of explain the locked diff, down pipe, straight pipe and tuner. He had five 7.3 trucks so the wife was making him downsize.
Unless you have documentation on the rebuild, the best thing is to assume it wasn't rebuilt. Lots of these trucks have the downpipe changed out because of how restrictive the stock one is.
If you have documentation, then as long as it was a good rebuild, you shouldn't have to worry about the engine itself for a long time.

Looks good, I love that body style. The down pipe does look like it has been replaced, one thing less to worry about. On the intake filter I've never seen that configuration flange from the filter to turbo intake tube. Maybe the 95's had it, don't know. Looks like the bolts are missing to secure both pieces? Make sure to investigate it and ensure a good seal to protect the turbo.
On the E4OD transmission be careful running higher chip settings as it is really easy to trash the transmission, unless it was also rebuilt to take the added HP. Ford made a good transmission but when adding more power it falls short really quickly. If you have stock injectors then there is less of an issue in this area.

It looks like an aftermarket intake flange to the turbo. Plus I love how he used a plumbing coupler from the filter to the intake pipe...
I knew the E4OD is a weak point with added power. The higher tunes really firm up the shifts but I still haven't fully gotten my foot into it yet. I rebuilt a 4R100 in my previous F250 in my garage which is the big brother of the E4OD. I can rebuild it if needed but I'd rather not.
I'm not sure if the injectors are stock or not. I'm pretty satisfied with the power as is, I think the only thing at this point I would like to do is an intercooler setup.
Tranny is not bad at all, its just the TC that fails that takes out the tranny, add a manual TC lock, a 6.0 transcooler, and valve body and that puppy can take some abuse look at my sig.
Looks like the 6637 needs changing lloks a bit dirty.
That is definitely a 3" aftermarket downpipe. And an aftermarket intake tube. Everything else looks stock.
Does the truck have gauges? I'd get a trans temp and EGT gauge on it ASAP if it doesn't. If it has been "turned up" you want to keep an eye on those parameters to make sure you're not pushing it too hard...
