Shock specs.
Does anyone have the torque specs for the shocks on a 1979 Ford F150 4x4?
My reference says 25 FT lbs for the rear upper. This really smashes the top rubber bushings on the rear. Thanks

I don't have the 1979 shop manual. The one for 1976 says 15-25 ft.-pounds for the upper and 40-60 ft.-pounds for the lower. Just use "reasonable" compression of the rubber bushing. Mashing it totally serves no purpose. If it is too loose it will let you know.

at the top a shock has to be able to swing back and forth like a pendulum, but not as much. if the rubbers are compressed too much they can't flex. the swinging motion is then forced onto the shocks top shaft, which is not designed to flex sideways. tighten to where the rubber fully contacts the washers but doesn't bulge the sides much. if that isn't much torque double nut if you can.
