I opened the lines ahead of the selector valve eliminating everything but the hard lines from selector valve to engine. Placed both supply and return lines in a fuel jug. Cranked 4-5 times for at least 15 seconds each time. I got no fuel drawn out of jug. The pump should prime pretty quickly correct?
I suppose I could connect directly to the pump but looks I have to get half way to removing the pump just to remove that short piece of hose.
Rather than start a new post, if you all don't mind, I'd like to jump in here while chris.817 is working on his assigned tasks from you all in the forum.
I have a 1995 obs with 7.3. One day running fine, started sputtering in transit like its out of fuel. Crank but no start. Had to have it and my trailer towed home. Replaced: CPS, ICP, IPR took the fuel bowl off and checked fuel pump. Couldn't find the Fuel Filter sensor on bottom of bowl so I plug it with a 1/8 threaded male nipple. Changed the oil Wednesday and filter after getting fuel back to the bowl it finally started and ran soooooo nice. Drove it around the neighborhood a bit. Stopped me from taking it to the crusher. Started it several times that night but yesterday when I went to start it to connect to my trailer before beginning my route it started, but then started to sputter again. I have another running obs with a 7.3. Changed the computer that is under the brake booster, the other truck started, the subject truck starts then shuts down immediately. I have an OBD2 scanner and these are the specs:
ICP - 14 - 50% when running around 12%
IPR - nearly 3000 psi to start and 500-600 at idle when running
CPS - 195-230 RPMs and it moves on dash when cranking.
My next idea was to change the UVC harness, they are expensive and anyway, when its running, it so smooth. I did spray the connectors with electric contact spray to get rid of the oil and other residue. Anyway, I think that's all.
Again, sorry to jump in and sorry for the long post, but need you guy's help. Last night and the day before, I kicked the thought of buying a new Ford, but didn't want to trade the devil for the witch.
Forgot to mention that put my fuel pressure gauge on it and while cranking 20 psi. When running 50 to 55 psi at the schrader valve.
Best to start your own thread on something like this ... but, I'll respond. I think your down to maybe the IDM or valve cover gasket / pigtails. Since you have a working truck I would swap the IDM first, easier than the PCM. With your scanner you can also do a Buzz test, if available, then scan for any codes. Aftermarket valve cover gasket and pigtails are available if necessary and cheaper than Ford OEM, but that is your call.
Well, didn't think I'd have to say this but I still get nothing.
New fuel pump, filled bowl before I restarted. Seems to try to start here and there. Cranked for 15-20 seconds, 6-8 times. Won't start.
Pressure gauge on regulator still not showing anything but there is a bit of pressure if I press the nipple on the valve. WTF...
Charging batteries overnight and will put the ScanTool on again tomorrow to ensure I have oil pressure, enough RPM and voltage. Will then remove filter and see if bowl is filling. Out of ideas after that...
Minor success... Before trying to start it tonight on freshly charged batteries, I opened the fuel filter. It was barely 1/4 full. I connected my remote starter button and simply cranked engine. I get air bubbles from bottom of the bowl.
I guess at least my low pressure part of pump is working and trying to draw fuel. Will connect both lines to external jug again tomorrow.
