Motor Madness

So I am looking at planning my next Excursion motor.

Question 1) what is an AOD Ford transmission?
Question 2) is the 4r100 an AOD?

I have found adapters to fit a 460 to E40d and AOD transmissions. But nothing on 4r100s specifically.

I don't really know where to post this question.....engines, transmissions ? So I posted here.

Any help would be appriciated.

My reason:

I have a custom built 552 cid 460 motor with cobra jet heads looking for a home.

AOD = Automatic Over Drive

4r100 is AOD

Not all AOD transmissions have the same bell housing. The E40 is used in the expedition and my GUESS is that it has the same bellhousing as the 5.4 Excursion with the 4r100

If you are going hybrid drivetrain I'd ditch the 4r100 and consider a 4L80e as they have plenty of aftermarket support for swaps.

Was really wanting to keep 4r100 because I'm going to use the ford excursion 5.4 pcm to operate the 552 motor and transmission.

Using a cps adapter, and crank position switch I can just plug and play.....I hope.

If I can adapt the 460 configuration to the 4r100.
