hello, i'm putting my "new to me" 58 in undergound storage for the winter and want to plan/purchase parts for my drop before i get it back out-
im looking for any recomendations on a nice LOW static drop- So far im thinking Sids drop axle, and pull a few leafs in the front- and flip and pull a few leafs in the rear and a mini frame notch-
i do not want to cut the bed floor, and i really don't want to notch the frame, but it'll only have about 1.5 inchers of travel if i dont do that - I also want to keep the 15" wheels and wide whites, but want to do some supremes and coker tires- these bias ply's handle terrible
Please share some static drop pics and details of your setup if you have them, it would be much appreciated!!
thanks!!! Dan
I wanted to do a Sid's axle too but got impatient. The lead time when I checked it was 8-10 weeks. I ended up going with Western Chassis mono leaf springs front (4 1/2" drop) and rear (4" drop). The ride is decent but I def. need a c notch in the rear at a minimum. Front hits too so not ideal. I think ideal would be a 2" drop axle and either new 2" springs in the front or remove leafs to get the desired height. I would definitely start with the dropped axle though.

Truck looks great- ive got plenty of time to get the dropped axle from Sids- im thinking a 3" axle and some spring will keep the front from slamming too hard-
your tires look smaller than stock? Ive only got a 223/6cyl and am worried about it running slower with smaller diameter tires? Ive got L78-15 Denmans on mine, and am looking at 165r15 cokers-
Thanks. I love the look and whatever my final suspension ends up being I want the same stance. I can't decide if I want to order a SIDS axle and redo the springs or do IFS. I plan to redo the rearend with the TCI parabolic spring kit and the anti-roll bar. I have a 223 6cyl as well with a 3.90 rear end. The tires in the picture are 225/75/15's but I have since changed them to 235/75/15's. With the 235's it runs at 2700 rpm at 60 mph. 60 is about all she is good for. I can run it up to 65-70 if needed but can't cruise there. 60 is perfect though honestly.
Like I mentioned before, didn't make the wisest choices in the beginning. The carburetor was shot when I got it so I went with this:
Thanks for the compliment on the truck but mine aspires to look like yours! Very nice!
I did a spring over in the front and rear. Still working on it but a have a lot of pictures. Finishing up the c-notch in the back in a couple days and installing a rear gas tank then the bed will go back on. That will give a better perspective on the height. Here is the link to my thread.
