Trans Fluid Overfill?
This weekend I swapped my trans pan for an AFE that fits the newer trans filter. I also replaced the toilet paper filter and blew out that line with air. I collected about 9 quarts of fluid and lost some to mess in rags and on myself.
The AFE pan has an additional capacity of 7.5 qt over stock. I added 18 qts figuring the AFE pan is supposed to hold 17 qt total and I probably blew out another 1 qt from the lines to the toilet paper filter. It was a bit hard to estimate the mess - I think it was about a quart - filled two big rags and made two large spots on the driveway. Cold readings on the dipstick suggest way too much fluid.
Mark K says only a warm reading means anything so I am not sure - guess I have to take it for a drive and see what happens and what the reading is afterwards, but I figure I can't be off by much.
Any thoughts - I really would like to avoid a trans fluid explosion under the hood
I wouldn't count on doing the math to calculate a fill. If I were you I'd run it like they say (foot on brake and cycle through the gears and back to park). Then check level. If too high, either suck or drain some out to get it to the correct level.
Well I'm going to drive it tomorrow and we'll see what happens. I think I should be within 1 qt plus or minus (you know based on the math thing). Anyway appreciate the words of encouragement. As a note to anyone installing one of these aftermarket pans, a ball head 6mm allen will save you a lot of time under the cross member. I've got a boat load of tools, but apparently my ball headed allens are all standard, not metric

So post a photo of that pretty pan. I happen to like dark colors.
